IT'S THAT TIME OF THE MONTH-----This looks like one of the better weather days left in August---SOOOOOO!! Come out and ride to test your stamina/endurance as you help (we'd like to ... morethink he needs our help!) Mark Perkins complete his 80th consecutive month of doing a century ride!! Starting this ride VERY early to try and "beat-the-heat"---You'll need front & rear LIGHTS on your bike for this early start!!!!

Come get a good workout and get out in the fresh air---as you ride a Century (100 miles) from Lake Pflugerville. A no-drop ride (promise--we'll always re-group as we really want to stay together!) over the flat rolling farm/ranch land of northeast Travis, northwest Bastrop, and east Williamson Counties. You'll head out east to Elgin; then go north and further east, riding by the Lawrence Chapel, to Thrall (lunch?). Continuing north you'll cross the scenic Granger Dam. Then you'll go west into Granger. Riding south and west from Granger you'll cross Texas 95 at Circleville (north of Taylor), before turning south, going back to Lake Pflugerville, to get the century distance. The total climbing: under 2700 ft. We'll do a nice "B" (15-17) pace to work up our mileage base.

We'll have a minimum of 3 store stops (more if needed): at 22, 51, & 78 miles.

Please come with you (bring plenty to eat/drink) and your bike ready (with lights) to ride 101 miles, in time for sign-in and to participate in a 6:50 AM riders' meeting so we can roll promptly at 7:00 AM. We will be rolling from the start PROMPTLY at 7:00 AM for the benefit of this long long ride.

NOTE I: I'm also posting a "sister" half-century (50 mile) ride--The Lake Pflugerville Half Century--(CCW)---to start out and ride the first 26 miles with those riding this century.

NOTE II: I don't have maps of this course, but Q-sheets (for the CCW century) will be available and the RideWithGPS version of the course is attached for electronic downloading.

NOTE III: Helmets are required on all Bike Austin rides.

NOTE IV: We'll be riding on some "vintage" Travis, Williamson, & Bastrop County chip-seal roads----inflate your tires accordingly!!

We'll be in east & north Williamson County on some quiet farm/ranch roads. We'll ride together across the scenic Granger Dam before turning north towards Bartlett. 1st scheduled MS 150 training ride. Each month, beginning in January, in preparation for the April 28th event, I will host two consecutive days of riding (Saturday & Sunday). ... more

If you are planning on riding the 2018 MS150 or any of the other mass rides coming up, you should enjoy our Group Riding Skills class/training rides. These will help you become comfortable riding for two days with 13,000 of your closest friends…and the emphasis is on close.

To register for this and/or any subsequent training rides tied to this event please go to:

https://bikeaustin.org/civicrm/?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/event/info&reset=1&id=419

The training rides will start with shorter distances (longer routes will be available) and build up to longer distances in each subsequent weekend. This weekend will begin at Lake Pflugerville. The minimum distance will be 24 miles each day, however, there is a loop on the route which can be done any number of subsequent times as well as a longer route out to Hutto and back for those who want to ride a longer distance. I'm flexible and will/can ride with both those who want to do the shorter route as well as those who want to continue on for a longer ride.

Each ride will begin with a 15 - 30-minute discussion of basic riding safety issues and aspects including use of gears and shifting, proper hydration and nutrition while on the ride, and riding techniques within the first 5 to 10 miles of the ride to increase your safety. The ride is designed so that I, and any of the other LCI's assisting, will ride with the group and talk individually (as much as we can) with riders while looking at basic bike fit issues, and discussing basic aspects of bike handling skills when riding in large packs or riders.

As will all Bike Austin rides, riders must come with their own helmet for safety reason. No rider will be allowed to ride without a helmet.

If you have any questions please contact me, Clark Shaffer, at 512 897 0070

The instructor will focus on group communication skills, avoidance maneuvers, and safe and efficient paceline techniques. Minimum attendance is nine (9) students. Fees for instruction is $35 per person per day, $60 per person per weekend or all 8 for $210.

For those of you who are required to attend by your team, you will get a certificate of completion (2 days of attendance required).
