It's refreshing to come across one of these turn of the century songs from south of the Mason-Dixon Line that doesn't mention black people as part of the scenery. It is however. Very sad. I find the cover illustration to be quite lovely. For a 108 year old piece of music this is not in bad shape. It has almost come apart along the left fold(and might come completely apart in the process of packaging and mailing) and there are small rips and creases along the edges and corners. Use the Zoom feature to get a better look at the music's condition I will be listing a lot of vintage music over the spring/summer(2012) I incorporate the shipping cost into the price of the music(free shipping"this includes the rigid envelopes. Vintage World War II"Missouri Sales Tax Receipt" Token/ coin One Denomination Fine collectible The following is a bit of history for both yours and my information. Collecting Sales Tax Tokens has been a part of numismatics for years and can be a lot of fun. This brief article gives the collector an introduction to the origins. Identification, and current prices of common tax tokens. Background of the Tax Token Currently there are no known tax tokens in circulation. They were mainly products of the depression of the 1930's along with wooden nickels. Depression scrip, and other kinds of emergency money. They were meant to assist in the collection of consumer's sales taxes when the amount due was only a fraction of a cent. During the Great Depression people did not like the idea of paying a whole penny tax on a small purchase, ... moresay, 25 cents. The tokens served as a useful device to make the new tax laws more palatable to the buying public. Establishing the use of these tokens by states normally involved a vigorous public debate. They were even opposed by the federal government on the grounds that they were“money” and thus competed with its constitutional coinage responsibilities. However, this latter opposition did not seriously materialize. Mintage estimates for many tax token run into the millions, this is high when compared to merchant tokens which typically have mintages below 1000. Prior to state issue. There were locally issued tokens by private individuals and groups. These were mostly made of paper or cardboard, with some made of metal and wood. The earliest known non-state issued tokens were the tokens made in Illinois communities during the spring of 1933. They were short-lived and as unpopular as the forth coming state issues. Privately produced tokens from Washington State were issued in wood and cardboard and only were in service from May to August, 1935. They were soon replaced by state issued cardboard and metal tokens. In Ohio the state used punch cards instead of tokens and also iss

Catalog number: Cr-3 Original size: 7 x 3" Paper color: manilla Signed by Shields. Countersigned by: Jackson At the onset of the Civil War the government in Jefferson City was headed by Gov. Clairborne Fox Jackson. Who was avowedly pro-Southern. The General Assembly after the 1860 elections, consisted in majority of men who were considered conditional Unionists(pro-Union but against coercing ... moreseceding states to remain in the Union) but at one end of the spectrum were a large number of pro-Southerners and on the other a small minority of unconditional Unionists. The most pressing question facing the state government was how to deal with the secession issue. The matter was referred to a specially elected State Convention that met first in Jefferson City, then St. Louis, from February 28 to March 22. The Convention came to the conclusion at the time that it was in Missouri's best interest to remain in the Union. The convention also resolved that the states desiring to secede in order to establish an independent southern Confederacy should in no way be prevented from doing so by the federal government. Events quickly proved that such a neutral position was impossible to maintain. Until late spring. The legislature resisted Governor Jackson's call to reorganize the antiquated state militia into a more powerful state guard with enough military muscle to enforce an exodus from the Union, should a final break come with federal authorities. On May 10, an incident occurred that dramatically transformed public opinion and the posture of the legislature. On that day f

I want to start off by saying that on a weekly basis I get questions from bidders asking if I split up family lots of diaries and sell them separately. So I thought I’d post something to ease everyone’s mind before they buy. I am very passionate about diary collecting and history and I can’t even imagine buying a diary lot from one particular family and then splitting them up and selling each separately. Its heart wrenching when I see this happening and you have my promise that if I have more then one diary. No matter how many I have, I will always sell family lots together in one auction. But I think it’s a good question you should always ask your sellers just in case you want to try and keep a lot together. And with that said… I also need to mention that it is illegal by EBay’s rules to copy all or any part of the description here for purposes ... moreof selling elsewhere. Their policy is listed here; http:pages.ebay.com/help/policies/image-text.html I have no problem at all with anyone purchasing my item and reselling it. However my description that I’ve worked hours on is not allowed to be copied by anyone for the above purposes. The main reason I write this is because I was contacted about a listing where someone had copied my exact auction and tried to sell a diary that they didn’t even have. It ended up being a fraudulent auction and I’m thankful they caught it in time. Thank you so much for your understanding. Up for auction today are two handwritten diaries and both of them were written by Jeanne Jamieson who was from St. Joseph Missouri. http:www.ci.st-joseph.mo.us/history/history.cfm The first diary if from 1934 when Jeanne was just 13 years old. The second diary is from 1938 when Jeanne is 17 years old and in high school. The 1934 diary only has handwritten entries from January 1 st to March 3 rd. However the 1938 diary has complete handwritten entries for every day of that year. Jeanne is your typical teenager too because her high school diary is full of her life concerning dating. Movies, school ac
