Théa, 30 years of research & development
In just 30 years, Théa's internal R&D has developed 30 therapeutic innovations, providing major advancements in eye health and ophthalmic diseases, as well as new treatment options in eye care.
In 2025, R&D at Théa represents approximately 12% of the group’s revenue, equating to around €150million per year.
It is based on a three-pronged development strategy:
- Innovative delivery systems.
- The development of new active ingredients for ophthalmology.
- The improvement of existing products through formulation advancements.
Thanks to Théa's R&D, eye care professionals have access to a comprehensive and modern range of products, with a committed focus on "preservative-free" solutions.
An R&D laboratory at Théa
The research conducted in-house by Laboratoires Théa has been a key part of its reputation since the first generations of the Chibret family.
Today, R&D remains at the heart of Théa’s strategy. This is evidenced by the recent work carried out at the group’s headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand.
These efforts have led to the expansion of both Théa's headquarters and its research laboratory, which has doubled in size, now covering a total area of 1,000 square meters. The teams now have a modern, well-equipped workspace that enables them to continue innovating and to take over certain research projects initiated by Théa’s partners.

In its research and development projects, as well as in its manufacturing processes, Théa adheres to the highest regulatory standards and applies them internationally.
Théa holds the status of a pharmaceutical establishment in compliance with European Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and is ISO 13485 certified. This commitment to excellence ensures that Théa's products are registered in countries with the highest regulatory demands (Europe, Japan, USA).
